Moc Bai & return

Yesterday I caught a #703 public bus from Ben Thanh which carried me along route 22 to the small village of Moc Bai on the border with Cambodia (see Google map below). I had some paperwork to attend to that could not be taken care of in the city and so this day trip became necessary. It takes about 3 hours each way as the bus has to stop at many places to take on new passengers, many of whom are travelling to the border to shop in the duty free hypermarts.

But for the throng of fellow passengers who kept me entertained, the trip is a bit boring and Moc Bai itself is not exactly my destination of choice. However, I did learn a few things about travelling on the public bus system here and the next time I will be able to catch the bus from very close to my house. Incidentally the fare is a very modest 25,000 VND (A$1.50) one way. So if you have an urge to peer into Cambodia or buy duty free toilet tissue, it won’t break the bank to do so.
