About
Hi, my name's Roy Hornsby and I've been building web sites and teaching web design and development since around 2000. Over that time royby.com has been my personal space to experiment with various web platforms and designs as well as somewhere to exhibit some photographs and write about what's of interest to me. I'm an Aussie living in Viet Nam who, among other things, loves coffee, the occasional beer, Australian Rules Football and long motorbike rides.
Lately I've been burning the midnight oil to completely overhaul the site and bring it up to speed with HTML5, CSS3 and responsive design because these days websites are often viewed on mobile devices. I've also changed the CMS from Expression Engine to Wordpress and it's now running on a theme I've built called "Scion".
Scion: "a young shoot or twig of a plant; descendant of a notable family, or one with a long lineage". A fitting name for a theme based on the lineage of "underscores" and "toolbox" from Automattic. Scion is built using Automattics _s as a base and utilises ZURB's Foundation 3 responsive grid, typography and other elements. Social media icons are adapted from BlueLime Medias Mon-Cahier theme. I work on a MacBook Pro using Coda 2. I've tested it quite extensively but it's still a work in progress so if you find any problems please let me know, I'd appreciate any "bug reports" :-)
If you are interested to know how I've been building the site using ZURB's Foundation, there's an article here.
Oh... I also occasionally blog over at another royby.
