quote from the Dalai Lama from Sept 7

Posted 18/10/2010 under other stuff

Dalai Lama - My true religion, my simple faith is in love and compassion. There is no need for complicated philosophy, doctrine, or dogma. Our own heart, our own mind, is the temple. The doctrine is compassion. Love for others and respect for their rights and dignity, no matter who or what they are - these are ultimately all we need.

I’m pondering:
“The question is, how does one know what love and compassion is?
Sure, good upbringing in a world of love and compassion will help, but if the world were a perfect place of love and compassion wouldn’t people lose its meaning?
People wouldn’t know what is good and what is evil?
Does good needs evil beside it so people can tell it apart?”
Just pondering..

ah… shades of Friedrich Nietzsche, without evil, how can we understand good? Love and compassion just “is” that’s all
