Pardon me, but I would prefer readers to visit my blogs because they enjoy what I have to say or because they are interested in similar areas of research. “Leverage”, “refer”, “five levels deep”. Hmmm, just as well that I don’t say anything about where I work, or do I? I guess in a roundabout way I do mention a few things and I suppose that there has been the odd image showing some of my colleagues. The problem is, do I alert the management hierarchy to my blogging by enquiring whether they have any policy on the issue, or do I keep quiet and hope that I don’t offend anybody?

The rise of blogging over the past few years has, inevitably, given way to another phenomenon, as companies are forced to confront employees’ easy access to ranting and raving about work in public online forums like Blogger and LiveJournal.
While some companies like Sun Microsystems and Microsoft express blog-friendliness, for employees who are unaware of their company’s stance on the practice or working at firms without clear policies, the consequences of posting work-related entries or photos can be sudden and shocking. This issue could be solved, experts say, with some policy tweaking.

A blogging article from TIME.com. There is nothing overly new here, except the update to articles that individual bloggers have released before the mainstream media, but the article is incisive and well written. OK, the author has linked to several of the usual “a-team” blogs that most of us have blogrolled at one stage or another. But there are links to less salubrious bloggers efforts as well.

A NEW web browser from Opera Software ASA this week is the first major browser to incorporate an emerging technology that automatically delivers new blog entries and news articles.

Visitors can subscribe to feeds using Really Simple Syndication, or RSS, and have new items come in regularly as individual messages in Opera’s mail client, which is packaged with the browser.
Because RSS is integrated into Opera, visitors can easily email items or open links from the same application.
Support for RSS had been available primarily through standalone applications and as plug-ins for Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. RSS also comes with smaller browsers like OmniWeb for Macintosh computers.
But the decision by a major browser maker to include RSS is a sign of the technology’s rapid adoption.
“In some means or another, it’s there to stay,” said Christen Krogh, Opera’s vice president of engineering.
Opera is the No. 3 browser for Windows computers, behind Internet Explorer and Netscape, and is popular particularly in cell phones and handheld devices because of its small file size.
Version 7.50 was released Wednesday for Windows, Linux and Macintosh computers. A forthcoming version for mobile devices, however, likely will not include RSS support, Krogh said.

It’s true, pMachine has finally released the final version 1.0 of its new weblogging tool. Some great innovations are the use of Plug in modules which will allow for further development of the tool along with the ability to manipulate images. Calendars will be fully customisable and the list of features goes on and on. The pMachine site has a comparison chart with both pMachine Free and Pro and it looks as though ExpressionEngine comes up trumps.
pMachine’s developers have indicated that development will still be carried out on pMachine, but it doesn’t take a genius to realise that most of their attention will be focussed on the new baby. The upgrade price of US$99 from pMachine Pro is probably very inexpensive if the development time is taken into consideration. There may be incentives to shell out more bickies in the future when “must have” plug ins become available.

ExpressionEngine Final 1.0 Released
We are excited to announce the release of ExpressionEngine Final 1.0. This version delivers several new features and enhancements and marks the end of the public beta period.
Included in Version 1.0 is our new Moblog Module, enabling you to email weblog entries and photos to your ExpressionEngine site. Photos can be resized on the fly and you can have multiple moblog accounts, each with many different publishing options.
A fully customizable weblog calendar is included in the new version. You can create multiple, independent calendars, each with content from different weblogs. The calendar is completely configurable via tags and CSS. With the calendar comes a new “day view”, allowing you to dynamically show your entries for each day, complimenting the existing month, year, and various other views.
We’ve continued improving security, adding a “captcha” image feature designed to prevent automated spamming. When enabled, a captcha requires your users to submit a random word contained in an image when posting comments or when registering. ExpressionEngine can now boast the most comprehensive spam prevention tools of any publishing system.
Plugin support has been improved You can now assign plugins directly in your Publish page to format your entries. An auto-ascii conversion mode is now available as well, which automatically converts High ASCII characters and even MS Word characters in your entries.

We want to publicly thank everyone who participated in the public beta. Your input was invaluable to us in improving and finalizing the program. Since the beta period lasted longer than we anticipated we will be extending everyone’s license period.

BlogMatrix J?ger is yet another Weblog and News site reader. But the difference between this reader and others is that it uses a single panel instrad of the “traditional three panel layout of most other readers. It will cost you US$15 to subscribe, but if you hurry you can pay only US$10. Worth a look at perhaps as they say that this reader will tell you ONLY what has updated.
Unalog have produced this Alpha version of what seems to be another list of groups for persons interested in similar things to join and share links etc. I see that you can create a group and make it public or keep it private but other than that I’m not sure wht function Unalog serves that hasn’t been implemented previously somewhere else. Nevertheless, for the record they say…

If you get an account, or create a group, either one can be made private, so nobody but you (if a private account) or your fellow group members (if a private group) can see your links.
